Hello all,

I just powered up the placid HD BP for the first time and my voltage results are just ugly :-(

Toroid is Lindberg supplied by TPaudio, set on 230V configuration (Violet and grey tied together, Blue is Neutral and brown is Line)

Secondaries:

S1A is Red
S1B is Black
S2A is Yellow
S2B Orange


VR1 is set to 450R for both sides and VR2 is set to 1K both sides,


Here are the specs...

AC Input : 16,5V (A) and 16,5V (B)

Vin: 45V (+) and 0V (-)

CSS: 44,2V (+) and 0V (-)

Voltage Out (term block): 2,03V (G and +)
2,17V (G and -)
4,20V (+ and -)

TP out: 2,01V (+) and 2,16V (-)

TP Shunt: 1,65V (+) and 1,76V (-)

Vref: 1,7V (+) and 1,84V (-)

Hi. I'll try to help you.

First of all, do all measurements when the Placid remains unconnected at the output terminal block.

Quote:

S1A is Red

is correct.

I don't understand. How/where did you measure this. Perhaps between TP_VIN+ and TP_VIN- ? If so, I'll understand, and it's ok.


Try to measure between TP_VIN+ and TP_CSS+
and between TP_SHUNT+ and TP_OUT+

(respectively @ negativ output)

Remember, mV equals mA.


But something is wrong. At TP_VREF (+-) I'll expect to see 2.5v spot on!

Double check every component location. Also upload a good picture of the backside of the PCB.

Ok, thank you,

Just to be sure, how am i supposed to test on multimeter? VDC or VAC? (stupid questions I know but i am only sure for inputV and outputV at term blocks)

Well, for my test and the results shown above (test on VDC multimeter except TPV in+ and AC input term block), here is what I Am doing:

I put the black cable (COM) of the multimeter in one TP GROUND hole on PCB and then I put the red cable of the multimeter in TPVin+, TPCSS+, TPshunt+, etc...ect..

Is that Correct? or am I definititely an idiot?

I once did this drawing. Now we can try'n use it ;-)

Try take the values from "red" and "orange".

I guess you did the Vref as described in "blue"?

And all measurements but the AC input is to be made in VDC mode.

When you do S1A S1B S2A S2B you have to be in VAC mode.

VCCSDC(+): 0,35
VREF(+): 1,80
VSHUNT(+): 0,33
VOUTDC(+): 2,1

VCCSDC(-): 0,37
VREF(-): 1,85
VSHUNT(-): 0,35
VOUTDC(-): 2,17


I'll try the resistor with value you put and take a picture of the back PCB

Now, what happens when you turn VR2A. Can you change the output voltage ?

No, nothing happens, impossible to change the output voltage, no matters I turn VR2A clockwise or counterclockwise.

then, measure vshunt (orange) and turn VR1A

can you change vshunt ?

Yes it works well,I can change Vshunt easily in both side (clock and counter)

ok, then I'll repeat myself:


Something is wrong. At TP_VREF (+-) I'll expect to see 2.5v spot on! Not 1.8 or 1.7 - but 2.5!

Double check that every component is in the right location.

Also upload a good picture of the backside of the PCB.

Well this is freaky annoying,

Every resistor have been checked on both sides....all are just fine with correct value.

Soldering job has been reworked.

It is just a mystery....

Any thought?

PS: how can check Capacitors? they are the last to verify....Also if I inverted QP1 and QN1 (I don't think but just in case)...is that a problem?

Do you have access to resistors ? Do you have another 470R you can parallel with the one in R8 (to obtain ~220R)

Problem might be the bootstrap.

At first, don't replace. Simply parallel it to the 470R. Just to see if things changes.
