Hi,

My setup is as follows:-

PC > Sound Card > I2S > teleporter (transmitter) > cat 6 > teleporter (receiver) > I2S > DAC

I understand that the clock signal becomes differential after LVDS on teleporter and the jitter through the transmission is low. Is reclocking by Metronome needed in my setup to lower the jitter in clock signal further? I feed the sound card with a XO module of good quality and am not interested in ASRC.

Thank you.

Regards,
Peter

It is certainly not required.

What DAC are you using?

Thank Russ.

I doubt whether in my setup above, I should put the DAC in master mode whilst the sound card in slave mode to reduce the jitter as follows:-

1. clock (dual output clock) is put next to WM8741 instead of being put next to the I/O of sound card (ICE1724, i.e. envy24ht)
2. 1st output to DAC (Master mode)
3. 2nd output to teleporter (transmitter) > cat 6 > teleporter (receiver) > clock input of I/O of sound card

Would it be a better setup?

Regards,
Peter

I tend to prefer putting the master clock as close to the DAC as possible.

Thanks Russ.

Would you please advise how I can connect the clock to one channel of the teleporter transmitter and from the teleporter receiver to the IO device ICE1724?

My suggestion:

Clock
Clock signal > one channel of the teleporter transmitter
Click Gnd > teleporter Gnd

ICE1724
One channel of the teleporter receiver > clock in of ICE1724
Teleporter Gnd > Gnd of the sound card

Is it correct? Further, as the GND of both teleporters are connected, will galvanic isolation be lost?

Regards

Ground should be optional, since the Teleporter is sending the clock signal deferentially. I would test w/o it first. There is a jumper on the Teleporter for optionally connecting it's GND to the RJ45 shell.

My system is down before I put the XO next to my DAC chip, i.e. WM8741. The XO is now put there and 1 clock signal goes to WM8741 direct (master mode) whilst another to sound card's IO chip, i.e. ICE1724 via teleporter (slave mode). The improvement is clearly audible in all aspects. The ground needs not be connected as suggested by Brian.

Highly recommended to use this DAC master CD/CAS slave mode.

N.B. the frequency of both devices must be the same, which is 22.5792 in my case.
