Very very hot in Melbourne today (40 deg C).
30 deg inside music room.
>40 deg inside DAC case.
Lifted lid on B-II to find all LEDs lit except new AVCC. New Tridents ok.
Got latest Tridents & AVCC from Brian a few days ago, readjusted (2.0.1) Placid for ~490mA/5.22v hot, working great until today's heatwave. Checked voltage & shunt V, 5.22 & 50mV.
Left lid off, all cooled down, works great (no permanent damage that I can hear).
I will now do better heatsinking/ventilation.
But question is: What is max temperature you recommend for AVCC & Tridents?
AVCC is just under top cover of DAC, where it is hottest, currently.
Tomorrow I'll do a holy lid to let hot air out, but would still like to know upper temp limit, if known.

It should work as long as the maximum temp for any of the individual components does not get too high (I can't tell you exactly what that is at the moment but I am certain 65C would not damage any of the components). One thing to remember though is that some of the parts (transistors and LEDs etc) have a temperature coefficient that may move certain voltages out of their normal operating range - for instance as the temperature rises a voltage/current may drop - which is likely why you saw the LED not lit - because the Placid 2.0.1 has a negative tempco - so it loses current as it gets hotter. The Placid 2.1 has voltage references that are far more immune to temp changes - so you would get better/more consistent results in changing temperature with that supply. Plus the Placid 2.1 is simply a much better supply.

For now I'll concentrate on keeping everything cool.
Will consider new Placids when I add WaveIo (on order)
