Yesteday I tried out all the different settings on block SW1. I wanted to find out how low bandwidth I could get before the dac don't lock the signal. When set the lowest bandwidth setting possible, the dac loose the signal almost emediately. As I changed the dip switces for an higher bandwidth the dac still having problem looking the signal. At last I ended up with the setting called "high" in the manual.

My question is; which setting gives the lowest bandwidth, is it the "Default" or the "high" .

The reason for asking is that the manual states that the lowest bandwidth setting will give the dac less jitter .

I propose following algorithm to set the lowest needed bandwidth:
- (1) set the bandwidth to "lowest"
- (2) increase bandwidth by 1 if lock is not stable

:-)

More sophisticated approach (might not work well with switches):
- (1) set the bandwidth to "highest"
- (2) if still not stable set also the "128x multiplier"
- (3) decrease bandwidth by 1
- (4) if lock was not lock during switch repeat with decreasing

Verification with ARTA measurement SW -- http://www.artalabs.hr/download.htm
- connect DAC output to soundcard input
- execute ARTA
- setup devices
- click on "SPA" icon
- select red play & record
- you should see something like spike around 1kHz frequency and other frequencies at low value
- window area might be needed to adjust (right click on graph)
- enable averaging (linear)
- wait at least minute
- if during that time graph still looks good then jitter is ok
- if noise level (lowest line is above e.g. -80dB then you might have short unlocks)

"Default" is automatic - I'd say it might be anywhere from the lowest to medium.

Maybe I'm wrong, but in my ears the "high" setting sound better than the "default"

Your "better" might be also less precise but without temporal noise floor rises, which are not signaled by pause, but they are visible when checking output using described verification method.

I stand corrected. After switching back to the "default" setting, the sound get better with less sibilants. A change is not always to the better.
