Hello, I have recently asssembled Buffalo 3 DAC together with HiFiDuino control. I am using Amanero USB to I2S converter, but I would also like to have optional S/Pdif & AES/EBU inputs. If I understood perfectly, I can simply add S/Pdif input and control it (select it) with HiFiDuino. Do I need a special converter for AES/EBU or I can simply add that next to S/Pdif?

You need a level converter for S/PDIF and AES/EBU. Only TTL level S/PDIF is supported. See fi. page 50/51 in the guide.

Thanks for the reply. Can I use one level converter for both s/pdif and aes/ebu inputs or do I need 2 level converters?

If I use 4-Channel S/PDIF (or AES-EBU) Level Converter Kit, can I control the input selection directly with HiFiduino?

Can I plug 4-Channel S/PDIF (or AES-EBU) Level Converter Kit directly to Buffalo or do I still need the sidecar? I have seen somewhere that amanero is connected directly to sidecar, not via S/PDIF level converter, is that OK?

The Sidecar is typically used to connect UBS to I2S/DSD modules. I have read you can connect the Amanero to the 4 channel SPDIF board but you won't get the hi-rez/DSD capability. Only up to 192kHz IIRC. I do not know the specifics for Amanero/SPDIF connection though. |
