Hi all

I have been battling with this one for a while s it would be great if someone could help me.

Basically, I have a dual stereo setup, so two separate DACS in the one box, both legatos / BIIISE.

Now, What i need is to get ONE device (say a computer) to talk to all 4 channels as output channels. No sound cards in the land have TWO SPDIF outputs (only one) and using two interfaces has all sorts of problems.

Is there ANY way to maybe use one I2S link that carries say 4 channels to the 2 DACS? How would that work?

The easiest thing to do is run the S/PDIF to both boards. There are several ways of doing this...

1) Simply split it and run it to both. This will mess up the termination impedance, but will likely have no real ill effects.

2) A more proper way would be to terminate the S/PDIF, then split it. This would take a few resistors and a transformer.

3) (Recommended) Terminate the consumer S/PDIF and transition it to TTL, then feed both dacs. You could do this with the Single S/PDIF Level Converter board (found here [scroll to the bottom]). This is quick, easy, and inexpensive. If you did this, you would attach the S/PDIF to D1 on the Buffalo-IIIse, bypassing the on-board level converter.

The alternative would be to convert the S/PDIF to I2S and fan it out that way. You could use an S/PDIF Transceiver for that. It would work great but be more expensive.
