Hello, what has happened to the long-awaited new XMOS based usb receiver? Wasn't it intended to be available in 2013? I can find on sale only the old one... N.B. BBB is a bit of a too complex solution just to add a USB receiver to BIII. I would like to use my Udoo Volumio system to play music, but i need to connect it to an USB receiver on BIII. Couldn't we just have a simple (but high performing) USB receiver like many other DACs have? Would those receivers work as they are by just connecting their I2S outputs to I2s inputs on BIII?

There are so many good options available that we decided to place our limited time on other efforts.
the one you listed seems to be popular, though I have not tried it. I have used the Amenero (http://amanero.com/) and it is quite good.

I see there are many USB receivers around, but i can't understand a thing: can they work with BIII as they are just attaching I2S cables to BIII's inputs or they need some kind of adjustment?
For example, the Receiver i linked in the first post could do that? And the Amanero you use was ready-to-connect to BIII or it needed some fixing/tweaking prior to be interfaced to BIII? Did it need Metronome frequency correction?

Just hook up the I2S lines and you are done.

I would qualify that a bit.
For PCM you just connect the lines. For DSD and especially DSD/PCM switching the USB adapter needs the ability to switch channels and hopefully implements some muting.

I have a Buffalo II and I'm thinking about adding the USB connection. When you say the ability to switch channels, do you mean mechanically (a knob) or are you thinking about a software mechanism?

Hi,
I was referring to the point the the left and right channels are swapped in PCM vs. DSD connections. Some adapters like the Amanero or the JLsounds (the ones I have personally tried) offer an option to switch channels for DSD playback. The result is that you can have a simple connection of the I2S lines and everythings works correct. If your adapter does not support that you will have to build small circuit that switches the I2S lines for Left/Right channels for DSD playback.
