Hello TP CrewAngel

I bought a buffalo III a year ago now. I had a little start-up difficulties with this but it went all right againAngel
Because of my role as a father of two young children and that I had to build a little at my house, I put this Buffalo away for a while .. Since then I have bought a used Legato from a german musician and now I startet up the project againAngel
There is a small challenge with this - Signal lock flashes intermittently for approx. half a second while the music disappear to come back again?
Everything is double checked: solder, voltage, ect..
There is nothing wrong with S / PDIF digital output on my cd player because it works without any sound dropout at several other dac's ..
I can not really figure out why it flashes when all connections, signals and voltage are completely ok ..
The phenomenon has been since I first got started with this Buffalo and I remember that for my startup difficulties with this, Brian asked me to disassemble the Firmware chip and plug it in again - then the phenomenon was not so often, but it's still here?

I hope that someone can help me .. Could it be the firmware chip that has an error perhaps?

I look forward to your replyAngel

Hello Vingborg.

Maybe it is the DPLL Bandwidth, there are 8 different setting from no bandwidth to highest bandwidth.

This site http://hifiduino.wordpress.com/sabre32/ is great for exploring Sabre DAC.

Hello Country fellow man Angel

I haven't touch any of the dip switch'es, they all remain in the same possition from when I received the dac - I believe you mean the dip switch'es?

It's strange that the sound drop-out/ missing signal lock, was more often before I took the firmware chip out and in again as Brian suggested? That's why I suspect the firmware chip..

Could there be another solution which is easy to try out? Angel

Thanks for the link, it's a little hard for me to understand though Angel Angel

Best regards
Henrik

Hello Henrik.

Take a look at Leon van Bommels Guide Buffalo-III Integration Guide.
www.twistedpearaudio.com...gration_Guide_V2.1.3.pdf

Page 24 descripe the different of old and new firmware.

Page 27 explain setting of DPLL bandwidth.

Have You check the soldering of the DIL socket for the firmware chip.

Best Regards

I'm having the same problem at the moment, although i used my buffalo for a few months, but when i decided to make new cable (i'm using simple 10-pin IDC cable) it somehow refused to work - the Lock lights when I2S source is connected, but when i try to play music it just flashes periodically slightly. Once music stops - it lights up again.

I thought maybe one of multiplexers have fried again, but i can't see a short to the ground in any of them yet...Still - it could be them - already replaced 2 previously, maybe third finally died too? So if you had some discharge on I2S inputs - it's the first thing (and let's hope the only) that gets fried
