I plan to rebuild my BIII with 3 input sources: + USB (via Wave IO board from diyaudio.com) + Optical (via TOSLINK modul) + Coaxial (via Single SPDIF Level converter) Since I am in 220V country, so I don't want to use 4SPDIF board to avoid unnecessary effort to make it work. So I want to connect above 03 sources directly to Sidecar input. Could anyone of you can tell me how to connect Optical (IN1 - GND1) and Coaxial (IN2 - GND2) signal to 20 pins input of Sidecar, e.g which pin is IN1, which pin is GND1, which pin is IN2, GND2, which pin is 5.25V. Any advice/recommend is highly appreciated, the best is advice including picture. Thank you very much. Edited by user Wednesday, June 4, 2014 3:11:54 PM(UTC)

1. I think you'll want the latest version of the input board, if I'm not mistaken that has a voltage regulator. This would solve your problem. 2. The sidecar has the D1-D4 inputs clearly labeled on the connector. You could simply use the single SPDIF board for coax and connect that to D2. Plus use TTL level output of the toslink module and connect it to D1. If you can't make out what's what on the board anymore: see the schematic of the SPDIF-4 input board for the connector http://www.twistedpearau...al/spdif_4_schematic.pdf

Thank you Leon. I have 02 4SPDIF board and 01 Single SPDIF board already and I want to use current boards.
I see D1 - D4 inputs on Sidecar board.
I will use primarily USB input, then Coaxial SPDIF, then TOSLINK SPDIF. I will use 2bit selector to switch between them.
Do I have to leave D1 input is open for USB input, then connect Coaxial SPDIF (via Single Level converter) to D2, TOSLINK SPDIF Level to D3?
Is it ok?
I am sorry if I missed read in the guide, could you tell me what I need to do with Trigger pins on Sidecar board?
Thank you very much.

That is totally up to you. If you want to use the 2 bit selector, it might be a good idea to switch between inputs using a microcontroller. In that case, you can use any sequence you like.
The usage of the Sidecar and specificly it's pins is on page 16 of the guide.

Hi Leon, I need help again. Until today, I could complete soldering my B3 and WaveIO via Sidecar. As you can see on attached images, I am connecting WaveIO to B3 via both I2S and Coaxial SPDIF (via Single Level Converter). Voltage and LED are fine, but B3 does not LOCK with any source. I am not sure I solder 2bit Selector correctly, could you please advise me to correct it? I intended to use I2S on D1 and Coaxial SPDIF on D2. Thank you very much. I update that my B3 can LOCK if I solder Coaxial SPDIF to D1 input of Sidecar. Could anyone tell me which input would be used for I2S?
Thank you

I2S uses multiple pins. If you look at page 11 you can see what pins on the DIN connector are used for PCM. Wouldn't it be a good idea to make a little more use of colored wiring? It's pretty hard for me to figure out what is going where on the pictures, esp. to the WaveIO.

Hi Leon, I am connecting WaveIO to B3 as attached diagram. I checked DIN connector and understand that I have to leave D1, D2 as open. I2S will use D1 for Data and D2 for Clock. So I should connect Coxial SPDIF to D3 or D4. Is my understanding is correct? Assuming my understanding is correct, could you tell me how to wire 2bit selector? And how to switch between I2S and Coaxial. Thank you. File Attachment(s): b3.png (265kb) downloaded 27 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Try to login or register.

I am just read latest manual and decide to use dual pole single throw switch to turn on/off SPDIF autodetect function. Question is:
- How should I set DIP switch on B3 board or do not care because is it will be override by Dual pole single throw switch?
- I still leave D1,D2 as OPEN and connect Coaxial SPDIF to D3. Is it correct?
- How can I switch between I2S input and Coaxial input, still use 2 bit selector? how to connect it with Sidecar board correctly?
Thank you.

Do the relays on the SideCar click when you select input 1 on the switch? If not, it is not wired correctly, or at least not triggering for some reason.
If they are clicking and you are not getting output, then the I2S wiring is wrong somehow.
Is this an 8-channel Buffalo or BuffaloSE?

Hi Brian,
To update that I could lock I2S signal by lowering resistor value on Sidecar as suggested from Russ (I put a 1.5K in parallel with existed 10K), then I can hear relays click and signal is locked.
My DAC is 8 channel Buffalo. I could get output on my speakers now.
Thank you very much for support.
