Dear Sirs,
I need to power a WAVEIO with variable current absorption while I am using PLACID HD power supply. Shunt current varies from 200mA maximum to 40mA minimum with CCS current of 500mA.
My question: Can PLACID HD bear shunt current of 200mA meanwhile the WAVEIO absorption is at minimum or not?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,
LeonvB

The biggest problem you can expect is damage due to the raised temperatures because of the higher amount of current that needs to be shunted. The answer to the question if it can or can't deal with that isn't that easy. It depends on the average amount of energy that needs to be dissipated. What is the highest temperature of the heatsinks you've seen?

Leon is correct.

It is a question of heatsinking. If you are seeing heatsink temps over ~70C when shunting more current, you can simply increase the heatsink capacity until the temp is back under control (<70C)

Thanks for the reply Brian and Leon.

Last question: to power isolator i2s NVE's IL715 3.3volt and I can take the land from the buffalo dac (I2C) or advise me to withdraw from a dedicated power supply?

WaveIO can eat more than 200mA - 380mA is not even a limit it seems. It depends on bitrate of a track and can go over 400mA sometimes (maybe with 32/384). I think you can try to set it to "Always ON" in driver setting to increase average current draw...

I wanted to try placid with WaveIO too, but i guess if you set it to 400-450mA to be safe and it will only draws 100 when idle- it's a lot of heat...

I think it'll draw more than the 75mA maximum. Real question is: do you have noise on your I2S lines?

Dear Leon,
I do not notice any interferences for I2s connection. I was wondering to try the isolator just for my personal interests but if you suggest me to avoid to do it I will follow your guideline.

I'm an engineer. It's not my job to fix what isn't broken. But if you wish to test it for your personal education: by all means do so. I would suggest using a separate PSU however, to avoid damage.

Will the BOM for Placid HD BP be posted? The link appears to be broken http://www.twistedpearau...id_hd_bp_2.1_bom_pub.xls
