I'm finally getting around to building up my Buffalo III that's been sitting on my bench for two years.javascript:insertsmiley('Boo hoo!%20','/forum/Images/Emoticons/eusa_boohoo.gif')
Just to get going I have a single SPDIF input from a TPA toslink module on D1.

When I power up the board all voltages look good and supply current is within a few mA of 440.
Without input active the Mute LED is on. When I activate input data the Mute goes off but no lock LED and no output.
For now by output its just voltage mode (sitting at mid supply), no I to V yet. If I turn of the data Mute stays off.

Not sure what else to trouble shoot, I do have a scope and have verified the SPDIF to the 220ohm resistor bank.

As far as setup goes, there are no input jumpers, the switches are all ON and the volume pin is jumpered high.

What have I forgotten? What else can I check?

That will not work, unless you use a "Single S/PDIF (or AES-EBU) Level Converter Kit"

between the toslink module and the BUF-III

Toslink output is consumer level, BUF-III input(s) is(are) TTL level.

The output of the Toslink module is 0 to 3.3V levels, that should be good for TTL input.
Is there more to it than that for consumer vs. AES?

This is a wild guess with very little knowledge backing it up, I needed to put in a voltage divider on the output of the Toslink to get mine to work but I wasn't feeding it directly to the BIII so that probably isn't the issue.

Just checked that wont be the issue if your directly connected

This is my setup, birds eye view. When I looked at this again I'm only seeing about
2.5V logic high. Meets the spec for the chip but does seem a bit low (same with just the Toslink alone).

In the board view all the regulator LEDs are on but the lock and mute are off.
I will rig up a full 3.3V swing input driver.

I worked out a full 3.3V logic swing for the toslink output, but it still does not work.

I then hacked together an I2S for it and that does work OK. Since I'll be using I2S
when I work this into my system I guess I'll ignore my SPDIF problem.
