Hello,

I do not know if I am on the wrong thread - please direct me. I am looking for expertise on the potential of the 8 Channel B-III.

I am looking for a DAC to use with Audiolense and Jriver. I need six or eight channels of output to tri-amp or ?? I am planning on using this via USB out of a computer. I also need an input into the computer / DAC "off the same clock" to to attach a mic pre-amp to measure the system and allow for the digital correction. Does your system have this capability?

Does the output of your BIII use op-amp chips? Is there enough room to install Burson discrete op-amps? Or ???

Any assistance would be awesome.

If you have 8 channel PCM or DSD you can use the B-III with 3 or 4 IVY-III.

if you use 8 channels you will use 4X noral output.

For six channels you will use 2 at 2 x normal and 4 at 4 x normal.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for that. If I am understanding you, the channels are not assigned? Using, say a USB input and a combo of Audiolense and Jriver, I could use three channels on the right side with the Audiolense X-overs and tri-amp???

Is there an input that would handle a mic for measuring the system and room for correction? I have a mic pre-amp, so that is not an issue, I need an input that is on the same clock.

I found a couple of mother-boards with spdif outputs that could feed the B III - will I get all of the benefits of the DAC? I am looking for at least 24 / 192, DSD at least 6 channels to use with Audiolense X-over & DSP functions. Can I achieve this with the SPDIF or do I need I2S?

S/PDIF is limited to two channels, so you would need I2S for 6.

OK...So what is the answer - is there a USB to I2S converter? How do you get from MB to B III with the least issues.
Is there any analog input to the B III? I need a measuring mic on the same clock as the DAC for accurate measuring / correcting.

Many people are using the Amanero board with the Buffalo. I have not personally, though Russ has. It should work well for what you want to do.

Hi dcgold.

Amanero adapter is a great option, but only situable for stereo applications.

For multichannel applications, I only know three adapters. One of those is EXA devices. The second is Mini DSD USBStreamer. Finally, the third option is modificated ASUS Essence sound card.

Bummer - that will throw some large dollar signs in from of the project. I will need to add it all up and see how it all goes. I really like the capability of the B III and need at least 6 channels out for the digital X-over to work.

Before I rack my brains (such as it is), the channels on the B III are assignable? Each channel will be assigned a frequency range - three or four per channel. for tri-amping or ?? Possibly a 3.2 system X-d over digitally with time, frequency and room correction. Am I over thinking what the B-III is capable of?

From what I gather, the ExaSound USB to I2S is the only card capable of fully utilizing the capabilities of the B III - any thoughts????

MiniDSP also has an 8-channel USB->I2S interface.

The price of the Mini-DSP unit is good, but does not look like it will pass the DSD - one of the great benefits of the B III. It would be really nice if Mother Boards would have an I2S output or the digital input of the B III would allow the SPDIF the full 8 channels, 24/192 & DSD, so the USB seems to be the only work-around.
