Hello.

I've been recently working of the buffalo 3 again, and I have the pre March firmware
I can't find the dip switch settings for the old firmware anywhere.

On Leonvb's guide latest guide, it states

"With the change to the new firmware, the settings of the switches have inverted their value: ON has become OFF and OFF is now what used to be ON. So when switching to the new firmware, please invert all settings of SW1 and SW2."

While at the same time, stating:
"The only exception is the switches that are used off-board, fi. the S/PDIF input selection"
So, that means some switches retain the old settings and some don't., but for the user, we have no idea exactly which ones without the old firmware dip diagram.

Having the old firmware, I need the DIP diagram from the old version of the guide to know for sure which settings are being set.

Please let me know.
I think this can help many others as well.

Thank you.

That simply is not true, and you're not quoting things correctly. It also says this: "all of those switches should remain in the OFF position when using the input selection switch, otherwise one is unable to control them externally."

So: every setting IS inverted. You just can't invert the DEFAULT setting of the switches that are off-board: those HAVE to stay in the OFF position. Otherwise you can't control them off-board, as you can only pull a pin to ground once.

In any case, I strongly suggest you use the new firmware.

Thank you for your reply, leonvB.

I really apperciate the work that has gone into the guide.

I would love to get the new firmware, but being in Japan, it would take a little bit of time, and I'm trying to troubleshoot a few problems now, if possible.

I seem to understand the wording better now.
The part that confused me was the part that stated: "The only exception is the switches that are used off-board, fi. the S/PDIF input selection:"
The switches that are used off-board is ambiguous, because all the switches can be used and controlled externally via EXT:IO.
I have no idea which ones were "intended" to be used externaly, thus were left alone.
For example, SW2:1 and SW2:2 is probably encoding a "0" when open and "1" when closed regardless of firmware version to preserve the proper selection by the 2 bit encoder, therefore those two switches not being inverted.

A simple request is if you could post the DIP switch chart for the old version of the firmware, from an older version of your guide.
That would save me from trying to reverse logic the current DIP swich settings to find out what the old settings were.
I could not find the older version of the guide anywhere, unfortunately.

Please let me know if you can help.
Thank you.

The HEX file with the new firmware can be downloaded here: http://www.twistedpearau.../B3FirmwareMarch2013.hex

AGAIN: NO SWITCHES ARE "LEFT ALONE". You just can't control switches off-board when the corresponding DIP switches are in the ON position. That is the ONLY exception: ON means you are pulling the pin to ground. It's a hardware feature, you can't change that logic in software.

That's not really a simple request. I can't leave older guides online, and I can't post the text here. I can however e-mail you an older version of the guide. PM me your e-mail address.
