I am new at Twisted Pear but I do have som questions..
First of all - excuse me for my english spelling.:D

I am a man born in the last part of the seventies, and like many other people in this world, I have a great passion for music.. - And for DIY. I used to built speakers, but now I want to built a DAC, a DAC with the Sapre technology.:-)

I stumbled over the Buffalo III DAC one day I was surfing the web. I want that DAC, but I do have some things I need to know before I place my order.:

One thing - I only need the DAC output. This output will I put into some tubes! I also have af glowing passion for tubes.

1. This DAC output - Is it current or voltage output?

I have this digi. switch at home: Digi. switch

2. Can I use this switch with the Buffalo III DAC?

3. I need a complet kit, which means I need the Buffalo DAC, power supply and transformer. I believe I have to order Buffalo IIIse with all these Trident things, so far so good.:-) But which power supply and transformer do I need for this.?

I'm pretty damn good at physical design and I can also solder and reed a schematic, but I can't compute an psu or audio circuit, so thats why I need help to find exactly the parts I need.:-) I am a carpenter.:D

The DAC is both current and voltage, depending on the input impedance of the output stage - Hmm that sounds difficult .. Yes I know this stuff ain't easy.:-)

Try this: If I - Just for an example - use a Sowter trafo or a tube circuit for the I/V conversion, and from this I/V converter further into the output stage..Will this dac could see the input impedance of the output stage through the I/V converter.?

The reason I'm asking is that I want to use it as a current source because I've been told that a current source need amplification or gain in the output stage because of its low output.. Unlike the voltage source there have a high output (2V or more)

This amplification in the output stage gives me much more options for an exciting tube output stage.:-) Correct me if I'm wrong.:-) I do hope that I'm on the right path here..

Regarding the psu kit - Which one is the best I should go for: Placid HD or LCDPS.? I just want the best suited for this DAC.


P.S. Maybe I have not understod it all, but what are these small Trident boards.? The old Buffalo's don't use these boards and I can see that it is possible to buy the Buffalo DAC without these Trident boards. I'm just curious.:-)

Personally, I use the IvyIII as an output stage. Very easy to build and the DAC stacks right on top of it. Sounds fabulous.

No answers about which power supply there is the best match for the Buffalo III dac.?

I really would like to know because I want this dac in my hands soon, so I can get along with my "dac dream" :-)

The Placid is lower noise, but the Tridents will dominate the noise performance (remove any from the pre-regulator). The LCDPS has two outputs, so it can be used to power other circuit elements.

It's really up to you what you find more useful/important.

I forgot to ask - Have you received an order from me? Because in that case, I only need 1 of the orders.:-)
