I am using Placid BP for both channels. What should I set the voltage drop across R1 and R2 to set shunt current?
Can I set up SE output the same way as you suggested SE input by tying neg and ground together?

Start out at 100ma, then tune so you ware shunting about 50ma.

No - the cirucit is not really designed ofr SE output. Do not ground an output.

You can take just one phase of the output and GND, but I would suggest using some form of BAL/SE conversion.

Cheers!

Well I got the Retro up and running using an old balse with a LME4972 IC from a old buffalo build. Boy this is certainly one of the quietest phonos I have had in my system. I am pretty sure the balse is the limiting factor right now and will be looking for another bal to se conversion.

Ventus EZ should work well here.

thanks for the reply but I was thinking the full Ventus with the adjustability of gain and feedback.
I may want ti adjust feedback based on which cartridge I am using.

Cool. This will work out nicely. And you can drive headphones with it too.
