Hi,
I've ordered a BIII from the new batch, here is a brief summary of my project and some questions about how to set this up.
Devices - 1 Buffalo III with 4x IVY I/V - exa2UI USB to I2S interface - Mac Mini
Purpose - Active 3-way stereo filtering - Stéréo output for my headphones
I am wondering how : - I could swap output mapping through software (from multi-channel to stereo mode) - To physically wire the DAC to all the IVYs as some dacs would share channels depending on the output mapping
Or do you think I can just use the DAC in multi-channel setup, routing 6 channels with crossovers + 2 channels directly to the headphone out ? By the way, I think my headphones deserve the full benefits of using the dac in pure stereo mode though ;-)
Thanks for your help ! neofeed

Have a look here under "QUANTIZER SETTING". http://hifiduino.wordpress.com/sabre32/Near the end of the section (quantizer setting) there is a quote from one of the developers. If I understand it correctly you should be able to merge the dac`s by setting the quantizer setting to 9bit. Also setting the setting to 6bit or 7bit would result in multichannel operation. See page 27 in the integration guide. If I am not mistaken that would mean that you only wire the headphones to one of the IVY`s and make a switch to set SW1:1 and SW1:2 both to on (via the EXT_IO header) when you want to listen to headphones. I wonder how many amps mute the output when there is a headphone plugged in, perhaps a bit of thought could mean that you could trigger the SW1 and 2 settings by simply plugging in or out your headphones? Interesting reading though as a start to solve my problem :) Originally Posted by: gwikse If I am not mistaken that would mean that you only wire the headphones to one of the IVY`s and make a switch to set SW1:1 and SW1:2 both to on (via the EXT_IO header) when you want to listen to headphones.
You're absolutely right except that I need a stereo XLR out to my headphone amp (but equal). Question is : are SW1 and SW2 able to be remote controled ? (either by software or via I2C) Originally Posted by: gwikse I wonder how many amps mute the output when there is a headphone plugged in, perhaps a bit of thought could mean that you could trigger the SW1 and 2 settings by simply plugging in or out your headphones? Seems to be a good thought, need to dig a little to know if this could work with the headphone amp though.
