The sound disappearing and reappearing is almost definitely a bad solder joint somewhere. Check the output connectors on the Buffalo and input connectors on the Legato. You might want to add a little flux and reflow the joints.

Well, I've been reading the manual a couple of times and found out that I needed to change resistor 1-4 from 150 ohm to 187 ohm to get 2V out. So I did just that. Not much difference... So I put in 250 ohm in position 1-4 and 1k13 in position 9-16. Still not much difference. I'm lost here. Did I understand wrong that resistors 9-16 need to be 4.4 times the value of resistors 1-4?

Will try the 364 ohm resistors mentioned in the manual and for the other resistors 4.4 times that value.
