i am building a SQL car, i have focal component speakers, focal subs and focal FP amplifiers. i have a carputer with a sound blaster audigy 2xs, using KXdrivers and doing a active crossover. i started looking for higher end solutions, some recommend running optical to an audison bit one, but would rather take a little bit more hands on approach. from what i understand thus far is these USB to i2s are ASIO compatible (freq allocation, time correction, or any other VST plugin you want to load, then output to a DAC like a ES9018,

my concern is everything i am finding shows people using AC household power with transformers (which isnt a problem if can run a good "pure sine wave" DC-AC power inverter, but i'm also worried there will be some noise/static, my focal amps are 12vcd, the pc is powered by ( http://www.mini-box.com/M4-ATX ) which is dc-dc

so my question is how can i power a DAC in automotive environment? charging system is 14.4 volts, i am no electrical engineer. but is there a better way then inverter?

If you already have DC you could use DC-DC converters to get to the voltage required for the input. Using an inverter and then go back to DC will just increase your losses.

from my understanding the DAC of the es9018 needs a 5VDC rail, the car is 12.0vdc (not running) and 14.4VDC running. will this be a problem? and will the output from the dc-dc converter clean power suitable for a DAC and OPAMP?, i notice some people are using a 110v transformer 9+9v with a PLASID PS, and on the opamp needs 15vdc so they are using a PLASID BP.

I would use a LCDPS to bring the 14.4VDC down to 5.5VDC for the Buffalo.

The output stage requires a bipolar supply (+12VDC, GND, -12VDC). For this you can use a DC-DC converter. The IVY would be the best suited for this application, since it has a very high PSRR.

ok so the LCDPS on this site will output a clean 5V from 12-14.4VCD, perfect! i found a dc-dc bipolar converter, but is this any good http://www.murata-ps.com/en/products/dc-dc-converters/bipolar-output-isolated/mev1d1212dc.html ?

so i need

LCDPS (for DAC)
DC-dc Bipolar converter
UXA-2ui (usb to i2s) i was looking at others but they do not have "galvanic isolation" which seems to be a concern of a alot of people (can any one elaborate?)
buffaloIII
IVY output board
am i missing anything?

I would use something more like this:

The one you list will not provide enough current.

You sir are helpful, thank you very much. I want to have 6ch (ch independent active X/O,time alignment, and EQ) what would you suggest in terms of hardware, just to clarify. i dont remember mentioning that i need 6ch of RCA for my amps.
