Hello Brian and Russ My first post anywhere,thought it was time at 71 years old,so hello to everybody. Buffalo not mounted all Tridents and AVcc module in and out voltages as specified. Buffalo outputs 1.6 v plus on all outputs to ground,I believe this is the normal condition. Input standard red book CD SPIDIF at 44.1 rate confirmed at the input connector on the Buffalo at 0.9 v with a scope.SW1 and SW2 all open,also tried SW2 position 5 oversample filter bypassed and SW6 potion 6 also bypassed without any success. Kind of ran out of ideas. All powered by Placid 5.2v supply I tried it on a working Legato still no lock. Any help would be most appreciated. Denis.

Hello Brian.Many thanks for your fast reply. I will post some pictures as soon as I finish shopping duty. One thing I did try was removing the input spidif cable ground connection of the buffalo and I did get a somewhat distorted spidif on the outputs. Same thing occurs if I leave if I put the centre conductor to the ground on the B3 I get the same output from the B3. Cheers Denis Strike this I got confused between digital in and what I seen out of the B3 was a sine wave I was using Ik hz rest cd. So we are making progress. Hello Brian. I have sent some images in the previous post hope they help. I re did all the joints as advised on this site,and the B3 and it started to run a nice 1k sine wave from all outputs. Left it for about an hour and it had reverted back to former condition mute on no lock output back to 1.6v all outputs. All this was done with the B3 unmounted.But it was a moment of joy!. Hello Mr.D. I tried a little more remedial action as follows: Trident status. ACCC In out In out. 5.16v 3.26v 5.16v 3.24v
VDD 5.16v 1.17v
VDDX 5.16v 3.28v
DVCC 5.16v 3.29v
I also did a continuity check on all the external board connections from the tops of the attached devices to the underside of the B3 soldered joints. The only thing I was not sure of is that the ground input on the DIN for the i2s is not connected to the ground plane of the board anywhere that I was able to measure.I assume it is a different scheme. The SPIDIF ground is normal and connected to board ground .The input you can see comes direct from the CD player and on to the B3 via a panel mounted RCA phono temp connection direct to the B3. If the pictures which I sent are not usable to you I can repeat them,and by them I will have figured it out how to do it like you guys. All the best. Denis

Voltages look good, SPDIF looks good, Are you getting good sound out of the DAC?

Hello Russ. Unfortunately I am unable to get any thing out of the B3. Unmounted I still just have 1.6v out on all four outputs.I am unable to get the B3 of of the mute condition and it will not lock to the spdif input.Which is the only input that I will be using. Many thanks for the reply. Denis.

The copper pour on the bottom of the board is not a ground plane, so you will not find connectivity there. The fact that it worked for a little while then stopped is puzzling. How is that coax connected to the CD player?

It is a short length of 75ohm coax directly from the panel mounted RCA phono on the enclosure back side.From the phono in jack out to the digital out of the CD player via a silver digital interconnect 1 meter in length.The player is an old Nakamici I have tried this output into my Logitech transporter and it runs fine.It is very puzzling for sure. Try using a pair of regular hookup wire, just to rule it out.

I used a short length of 2 core ( spidif and ground) direct to the CD player output jack ,no change.Initially when the B3 started to output the sine wave it lost the lock once or twice but then the lock led came on and stayed on for just less than 1 hour.I had the CD track providing the test signal on repeat all of the time,then nothing.Very strange, I am open to suggestion. I don't see anything obvious wrong...
I would double check all solder joints and make sure the Tridents and AVCC are well seated and in their proper place.

Hello. I did recheck all of the solder joints and the continuity on all the header pins from the top surface of the board to the underside and they all are showing good. The Trident for the for 1.2 v is defiantly in the correct orientation and position. The other two 3.3v are both well seated and seem to be running normally.I will check with you if they are position dependent I assumed that they are interchangeable even thought they have a different function name. It would me great if it is that simple and we can all have a good LOL.It would not explain why it ran for close to an hour. I am out of ideas so I only have you guys. Denis.

Hello. Yes I have tried 3 different sources and the result is just the same.They where all SPIDIF as that is all I have at the moment. Many thanks for your help.
