Hi, In dual mono setup, where 2 BIII are connected to 2 Legato I/U stages (Each BIII has its own Legato), how do you connect the outputs in order to get XLR and SE outputs to work simultaneously? Is there some scheme or diagram? Edited by user Tuesday, December 4, 2012 10:56:45 AM(UTC)

Hi Russ, Balanced to SE converter - like Ballsie? Isn't Ballsie integrated in Legato? Or do I need to buy it separately? I am unsure what connections to make between Legato and XLR and SE outputs According to this diagram http://www.twistedpearau.../dualmono_BII_IVYIII.pdfXLR out is clear to me, but how to get SE out at she same time? And how to make connections to get half the balanced signal? And which is better, out of the 2 solutions?

According to this diagram http://www.twistedpearau.../dualmono_BII_IVYIII.pdf In dual mono, each of these IVY III operates with mono signal, either left or right.So it is mono, regardless of the R or L output on IVY III. Why not simply (on IVY III) parallel the Balanced R+ and L+ to get the +(positive) to the XLR out, and parallel the L- and R- to get the -(negative) to the XLR out, and connect GND (both XLR GND OUT on IVY in parallel) on IVY III to the GND on XLR out. And then parallel L_SE and R_SE , and GND and GND to get the signal to the SE out. Would that work?

I have a dual mono BIII with dual Legato's. Until I got a balanced pre amp, I just snagged + and GND from the R and L XLR outputs and connected them to R and L SE outputs. That worked fine for SE out. I never connected both XLR and SE at the same time, if that is what you are intending to do. |

You could also set your DAC up to use a single legato. Which I would personally recommend.

Very subjective. I would say no - not better - they will be be almost exactly the same. It is just somewhat easier to setup two legato's if you only plan on using balanced outputs.
For your application using one actually has some advantages. Fewer things in the signal path.

As for wiring the off side channel phase is flipped. So you must wire accordingly.
