Hello,

While dealing with Legato and Placid HDBP issue. I tried to power up BIII for testing.

My test configuration is just one simple 5.2V power supply connect to BIII and BIII connect to no where.

After turn the power supply on, all LED on BIII are light (Tridents, LOCK and MUTE) and I heard continuously screech, like a sound at very high frequency.

I wonder if it is because of no in put or not?

Please help.

Thank you

Nothing in circuit can make a physical sound. Input or not, it doesn't matter.

Are you feeding the Buffalo with S/PDIF or I2S?

Hi avr300, Brian,

I just test by power up single BIII board alone. No input is connected to BIII as well as no output (i.e Legato) connected. Just power supply and BIII.

I have to use this power supply because Placid HD was not available at the time I order. However, I have 02 Placid HDBP set and going to try with BIII. Hope screech will gone.

Is there any issue with Placid HDBP if I adjust it to +-5.25V and use only positive rail to BIII?

There shouldn't be a problem using the positive side of the HDBP, but I don't think the power supply is causing the noise.

Before you power it again, can you post a picture of the Tridents and AVCC modules?

Can you reproduce the noise ?

If yes, you could try taking off the Tridents and the ACVV shunt module, power the DAC again (now it certainly won't play music) and see if the noise has gone.

Gradually put in the missing parts until you find the "bad guy".

Update on 18 Sep:

Today I use positive half of Placid HDBP to power up my BIII, everything seem go well. No noise. Voltage drop only 0.2V to 5V.

All LED except LOCK LED are light up. Hopefully I can solve my problem with Legato and Placid HDBP soon.

Thank you.
