Hi! Got my Buffalo finished last night, and it sounds fantastic!! Thanks guys, excellent work  But I have one small, but annoying problem. Everytime my electric heating kicks in, the buffalo takes a short break. Just a second or so, but still annoying.... Any suggestions to a quick fix? Another thing: The automute cuts the first notes on most tracks. How can I disable the function, or adjust the treshold?? Stein Edited by user 16 years ago

Hi Stein, I am not sure whats happening with the heating. :) I will stew on that one.
Is the SPDIF actually cutting out between songs? I don't know that there is anything that can be done about that. The cutout is likely do to the DAC having to re-acquire the lock.

I think it is locked. The lock leds on both the Buffalo and the S/PDIF receiver is constantly lit. But the automute led switches on between each track, and it misses the first fraction of each track before it disengages.

That is very curious, because the automute function should be disabled in firmware already...

Yes I just verified the the firmware disables the automute timer, but if there is some error in the stream the automute will still kick in. I suppose this could happen even without loss of lock... I am not sure how its happening.

I noticed today when switching on my tuner, while the buffalo's playing, it also took "a short break" - half a second or so of silence. Only when switching tuner on (not when switching off). Also noticed my buffalo screeching a bit (sorry, bad explanation) when a new cd is inserted in cdp, or when a new track/album is kicked off on the pc. I'm assuming this is to do with the dac locking on to the signal?

I haven't tested another source yet. My shortlist of things to do is - test more sources - bypass the S/PDIF receiver (S/PDIF direct to Buffalo) - play a bit with the dip-switches - check the S/PDIF input socket - other suggestions??

Hi!
Have been working to get around the problem with my automute. But still no luck. I have tested different S/PDIF sources and I am now running AES/EBU from my drive to the MUX. And I2S from the MUX to the Buffalo. I guess this would be the best way to run the signals. The lock led is constant, so I guess there are no problems with the signal. Could there be something wrong with my Buffalo board?
I have a dual mono Opus in the same set up. Using an Otto to switch between the DAC's. In the Opus setup everything works very good indeed. But the buffalo have some qualities that the Opus lacks (and vice versa), so I would like to fix this problem.
Anyone have an idea what might be wrong??

It could possibly be a problem with the PIC. I really don't know...

Is it possible you have the Address jumper in place?

There is no address jumper or any other jumpers in place. But I think I found the cause of the problem... There is no PIC controller on my board. The IC4 position is empty.... Should have seen that one earlier  Could you send me one?? (Provided it is doable for an amature like me to mount it). Stein Edited by user 16 years ago

That would do it. One the way.
It is a socket that you solder in, then the uC just inserts into that.
