Hallo,
I have a spare transformer that I would like to use with the Placid BP HD. The problem is that it is 15-0-15, so a centertapped configuration, and not dual secondaries.
Would it be a problem to convert the placid-rectifiers to centertapped operation? I would take out the two rectifier bridges and insert two discrete diodes per rail, with a direct connection from the centertap to ground.
Can this be done without any side-effects? I just wonder, because this is not the default configuration, which also has the advantage that you need less diodes. But maybe I am overlooking something here.
Thanks for help, FLorian

Ok, maybe the question is too simple. A quick "yes/no it would (not) work without a problem" is appreciated :-)

You could make it work, by using a single rectifier and putting the center tap to GND. You would of course then not use the two on-board rectifiers. In Short it is possible - but I would recommend you do your homework.

Thanks, Russ.
I will try it, and maybe post a pic or two when it is finished...
