As a novice I am trying to build a Buffalo 3 Dac recently acquired. I have made a few mistakes with the project thus far and have corrected them as best as I could. LED’s was mounted wrong way around and the tridents were initially not in correct place.

At the moment I am using a power supply from an old CDP which deliver 4.9 V to Dac. I have tried to play the DAC through the output stage of 2 CDP’s, but no music or stable lock yet. Mute LED comes on at times and sometimes I get a lock from the S/pdif from on of the CDP’s DVD-ROMs drives. All lights of Tridents and AVCC are on. Dip's are all off except SW2 1 and or 2.(I use D1 for input)

I have started to measure some points and the results are:
4.9 V at DAC and at all 3 tridents "in".
1.2 V at VDD "out"
3.3 V at VDD_XO "out"
2.1 V at DVCC out
When I disconnect DVCC trident from Dac I measure 3.3V at "out"

Please advice:
Is power supply not beefy enough?
Have I damage the Dac board?

Thanks

Can you test the 2.1v trident offboard ?

edit: sorry - I haven't seen that you had placed half the story in the tread subj. line.

If your 4.9v (input) doesn't drop, you might have damaged the DAC board.

Sounds like it is current starved. You want a bit about 5V in any case.

Thanks Russ for a bit more encouraging reply.
I have tried to double up the supply by connecting another regulated line from the CDP(5V) to the BIII but the situation does not change much. The lock led comes on more consistently, but measurements are all the same.
Is there any telling sign that I can rely on whether it is the power supply or (hopefully not!) the board/DAC chip.
Thanks
