Hi all,
I have a B111, single input SP-DIF module, Placid HD and HDBP, Ivy3 arrangement. I have built it, but managed to rip a pin off the SPDIF transformer so this is waiting for a new transformer. Voltages set, lights all on including mute, excluding lock.

Reading through the manual it seemed I could connect my AES/EBU output direct to D1/ground, so being impatient I did this (without a 110 ohm load resistor ). Now firing it up - all dip switches off as per my understanding of the instructions I could hear a very distant rather distorted music signal coming through amongst the hiss. Lock LED still off, mute still on (?) I tried putting a 110 ohm resistor load in and all is quiet, but no music (lock off, mute on still). Do I have to wait for the SPDIF module, or can I get the AES/EBU connection working? Or have I messed up somewhere?

Many thanks in advance!
James

The BIII only supports TTL level S/PDIF. ONLY if your source outputs this type of signal (which is highly unlikely) you can connect it directly to one of the inputs on the board.
thanks 1 user thanked LeonvB for this useful post.

I would like to join this question. I connect toslink direct to B III D1/GND combination. I put J1 - J12 jumpers and all
sw1 - sw12 to off. When I connect it to power supply mute lamp is ON and lock lamp is OFF. I have also also SPDIF/4 but I did not intent to youse it. Please be so kind and give me suggestion what will be my next step to solve the problem.

HI LeonvB, thanks for the speedy reply. I don't know the differences between one AES/EBU and another so shall assume that the output of my DEQX is not like that, it only states AES/EBU in the manual. Guess I'll have to be patient and wait for that pesky transformer!

BTW do you think the condition of the LED lights is correct? I wouldn't know if it was or wasn't, just wondering as Matjaz seems to be concerned.

Thanks again!

James

The Toslink module outputs TTL level S/PDIF. So your problem is a different one. Without any more input it's impossible to say what could be the problem, but I'd start by checking all the input voltages of your modules. Then check shunt currents.

HI LeonvB,

thanks to you and otheres hereabouts for your help, my transformer arrived, all is complete, and I have a functioning if not completed B111 Angel

Agreed, wiring could be improved but I am delighted with the sound so far and the relative painlessness of the construction given what a newbie I am. Locked on, deals with 44/16, and 96/24 without glitch, sweet!

Any advice on orientation of the units, wiring tips, etc for a finished box gratefully received!

Thanks a million! Good sounds - I'd post a pic if anyone interested enough to tell me how it works on this forum?
