Hello

As long as Point B Sidecar is connected with LED
1 there comes music from the Notebook (Foobar) via the Exa U21 Module. If the wire is removed from Point B I can hear music from CD Player through INA 1 of SPDIF
Module and the Lock Led toggles frequently, along with intermittent music replay. Via USB connection everything works fine. In that case, there are no music interruptions at all !! Why does this happen ? The pictures show setting of DIP Switches
Settings and overall set-up. The jumper settings are as follows:

JPCM 1-2-3 not mounted, JDSD 1-2
not mounted, J1....J12 all monted, ADDR not shorted

R7 not shorted, L5 mounted

Sidecar R1 1K Ohm

SPDIF Board INA R1 75 Ohm, RS1 0
Ohm, R1 Input Selector 470 Ohm

DIP Switch Settings can be seen in the photo. Regardless of the choice of DPLL Bandwith there is always intermittent music replay via SPDIF. In contrast, in USB mode the DAC
replays music without any flaws, independent of DPLL Bandwith Settings. What am I doing wrong ?

All voltages and currens from the Power Supplys Placid HD-HDBP
and the Tridents regulators are OK.

best regardts from Germany

Rainer

As experiment, I removed the SIDECAR module and did a straight connection between SPDIF input module and DAC board. - Then music replay via SPDIF worked fine without any problems !
Now I still have the following questions:
1) why are there these lock and replay problems when passing the signal through SIDECAR module ?
2) what can be done about this issue ?
3) is it really correct to bypass the SIDECAR module and have a straight connection from SPDIF to DAC board ? Can any other problem arise from this connection ?

best regard

First off. Let me just say that that looks pretty amazing. Nice chassis work.

Then I will just say that you may want to try other cables.
Just to see if it is the cable, try to connect the sp-dif module direct to the B3 with the same cable as you used to connect the sp-dif module to the sidecar. If you get the same issue, then you just have to replace the cable.

Yes this sounds like it could be a case of poor contact from the IDC connector.

Hello

I made new cabling with IDV headers and ribbon cable. Again there is problem with intermittent music replay, as long as the SIDECAR module is in the signal path. Music replay with direct connection of SPDIF and DAC input (w/o SIDECAR) works very well.

Any comments on my DIP switch settings ?

SPDIF A-Out leads to Pin-3 Output of SPDIF module, from there to Pin-3 of SIDECAR input, via the relay contact to Pin-3 of SIDECAR output. Furtheron to Pin-3 = D1 external IO connector of Buffalo III.

I watched the SPDIF signal at Pin-3 = D1 digital input connector (DAC) with oscilloscope (see picture). During music drop-outs there was no visible change in the captured signal waveform. SPDIF level measured to be 3.75VSS = 1.33 Veff. -
Does this look alright ?

What shall I do next?
