Getting frustrated by the minute. Searching through the DIYA posts and TP manuals for 8804Rcvr>Buffalo. Thought I once saw it but cann't find it now.
How are the jumpers/switches to be set for an I2S connection 'teew the two? I've tried what I think the manual seems to hint at with no sound.
Pretty sure the I2S wiring is correct.
Lights on the WM8804 all light but the Buffalo is out.

Set the S/PDIF switch on the Buffalo to off (the side marked "1"), and switch 1 on the Buffalo to "-". Then make the following connections:
8804 BCK -> Buffalo DCK 8804 LRCK -> Buffalo D1 8804 DOUT -> Buffalo D2 8804 GND -> Buffalo G

Still no light on the Buffalo.
The WM8804 is setup as
AIF_MS + TXSRC + AIF1 - AIF0 +

Thank you Steinholien for the suggestion. Tried it and :( it did not work. Reconnected the Buffalo with s/pdif input to make sure it wasn't at fault. It's ok. So far have tried, AIF_MS + + + + TXSRC + + - - AIF1 - + - + AIF0 + - + - ..all with S/PDIF switched 1(off) and switch 1 to "-" on Buffalo board. The addr jumper on the Buffalo board is open, i.e. not jumpered. Tried it jumpered also but not with all of the above variations. Wiring double checked with a tug on each one. Even tried SCK(8804out) for DCK(Buff)!? Unit was repowered between each change also repowered cd-player, just incase there is some sort of powerup reset send/recieved. ...just a thought, this was just an experiment to hear if an audible improvement would result from inputting I2S over S/PDIF input to the Buffalo. So, the WM8804 board is wired into the existing stack via 5 inch wires to the Buffalo I2S inputs. Could the long wires be the problem? Edited by user Tuesday, October 14, 2008 9:57:20 AM(UTC)

You definitely want this to be open. closing it will result in the Buffalo not booting formware from the uC (wrong bus address). Quote:Wiring double checked with a tug on each one. Which PCB version is the Buffalo?

As noted in the manual on the V1.0 boards D2 and DCK are swapped. So: 8804 BCK -> Buffalo D2 8804 LRCK -> Buffalo D1 8804 DOUT -> Buffalo DCK 8804 GND -> Buffalo G Setup the WM8804 board for 24 bit I2S output and you should be all set. :) Edited by user Tuesday, October 14, 2008 6:19:31 PM(UTC)
