Hi guys,

I'm doing a BIII/Legato (balanced out only) build for a customer and would like some advice. What are the biggest upgrades that can be done? This is to be a no holds barred type build so price is kind of irrelevant. I've read that using r-core transformers and Salas shunt regulators in the power supplies made a big difference. For the Legato will using all Caddock or Vishay "nude" help? Also which caps int the output are the most critical? I know I will have to make some mods to how things are mounted but that is not to hard to do.

Sorry for all the questions. I am just trying to make the customer happy. It will be connected to a Beta 22 all the time once done.

Thanks for any help.

Bryant

I have read of people opting for Salas regs for lower heat, but I don't think they offer better sonic performance than the Placids. Keep in mind that the Buffalo's local Trident shunt regulators will dominate noise performance, so the pre-regulator is much less important there.

Thanks Brain. That's kind of what I thought for the dac.

Now to figure out how to do the best parts up grade to the Legato.

How far does he want to go?

Now, I would consider running dual mono legato`s to be able to null out DC completely without using caps. Each with its own power supply. Then I would look at seporating the analog and digital supply to the buffalo III by powering the AVCC directly from external powersupply (not from the B3`s common supply).
For the legato`s remember thermal connection between QN2<->QN3 and QN4<->QN5
I would also remove as much plastic isolation as possible. F.inst from the input pins, you dont need the plastic isolation on the pins once they are soldered into place. Solder signal wires directly to the pcb and you should be set.

That looks like a small power plant.

Just good upgraded parts is all this guy wants. Kind of a do the upgrades first and leave it alone.

Yes he did go the extra mile. Not an example as what you should do, more a example that it can be "overdone".

I have another question. I'm also putting in an exaU2I USB to I2S module. The input scheme is BNC, S/PDIF, Balanced XLR, and exaU2I. I have the 4-input S/Pdif, Selector and Sidecar. Will I need anything else to put all this together. I'm hoping that I can use the selector switch to go between them all. If I have to add a separate switch for the exaU2I how would that need to be wired? I've also got to do this to an Opus so all help is appreciated.
