Hello,

Appologies if this is a basic question with an obvious answer, i am just trying to get my head around the modularity of the buffalo III...

My question is, if i have two coax, direct to board inputs for S/PDIF at TTL level into a buffalo III (stereo mode) can i just use a two position switch between the two connectors and the board to switch to each source (without using the Mux)?

Thanks for any info,
Tom D :)

If the S/PDIF is already TTL, yes, you can feed it directly to the Buffalo.

To use the two position switch, I would feed the two sources to the Buffalo S/PDIF inputs 1 and 2, then use the switch to toggle EXT-I/O pin B2 low/high to select the source with the Buffalo's internal mux.

Hi Brian, thanks for the reply.

I've hit the books, and had a full read through of the Integration Guide. I need a bit more clarification on setting the DIP switches and EXT_IO up. Based on what you said above and from what I've inferred from various pars of the guide could you (or anyone else:) ) confirm i am on the right track to achieve what i want to by doing the following:

1.

Set switches 1 & 2 in DIP switch SW2 to OFF (p36 of guide; 'set these switches to off when using the EXT_IO connector')

2.

B0 = SW2:1 = Low Bit
B1 = SW2:2 = High Bit
B2 = SW2:3 = Normal/dual mono selection

I can't see what B2 has to do with input selection... did you mean EXT_IO pin 2 i.e. VDD. To put power on/off to B1 (or SW2:2)?

Or do i have the wrong end of the stick?

Thanks again for any advice.

The procedure is simple:
1. Set SW2:1 and SW2:2 to OFF.
2. Connect a switch to GND/B1. By pulling B1 to ground you duplicate the behaviour of setting SW2:2 to ON.
