tried another combo
fw chip in place:
fed input selector switch 3,3 vdc from separate linear supply and could switch between I2S and s/pdif 1 only on all other inputs
same without fw chip
best

You have a good chance of damaging the Buffalo's on-board vreg doing that.

gwikse suggested I´d try to release the BIII supply of some load ..that´s why
won´t do it again then
BUT
what do I do?
only reliable connection is soldering I2S to BIII with 3 x pcm jumpers in, but then I´ve got no input selection and might as well have kept BII and saved me days of hazzle
starting to get fairly fed up...
best
Leif

PS got your package today and regs are installed and working fine

Is input remapping set to on?

I`m sorry that I was not clear. I was _asking_ if it was possible to supply the switch with external power (to put less load on the b3`s onboard supply), too bad you had to test it before anyone ansvered.

Input remapping will need to be on for the DAC to work correctly.

Leif, I would suggest as an experiment if you have access to one you try using a 5V linear regulator instead of the placid and see if you have any success. If it works well then it means you may need to adjust the shunt current on the placid - or solve some other problem.

I have a LCDPS ready built and a firmware chip you can borrow (pm me).

Russ/Brian:

But I am wondering if it is a firmware "issue" here as well (the switch will still send the same signals to B0 and B1 at the dac board). Perhaps we cant use pos 2 or 4 if we want to use the front panel switch to trigger the sidecar?

And if so; Is there a way around this?

No that would not be an issue as long as you leave those DIP switches that select the source open.

The DAC is only selecting the SPDIF channel, if I2S data is present it will be used regardless of the selected SPDIF channel.

hello folks
I have plenty of linear supplies ready built, no problem
1 Q:
the 1,9 vdc that is fed from the selector switch pcb to "b" on sidecar
is it used to activate the sidecar transistor to open for 5,25vdc from BIII pcb to trigger the sidecar relays?
because the 1,9vdc isn´t enought to trigger the relays directly, right?
if this is the case:
why does the lock to I2S through sidecar become totally stable, when I feed the sidecar pos "b" directly from a separate linear supply ?
can I change the onboard resistor on the selector switch pcb to raise trigger voltage to "b" and will that yield same impact on lock as separate supply to "b" ?
hope you have the opportunity to see me through this

best
Leif

Yes you can change the sidecar resistor to something between 680Ohms - 1K and it should work better for 1.9V.

ok but does it work as I asked above?
trigger transistor that opens for relay voltage from BIII

I don't understand the question exactly, but yes that transistor energizes the relays. If the relays are not fully energized you could have issues.

I simply asked if the supplied 1.85vdc supplied from the input selector switch board to "b" on the sidecar triggers the sidecar transistor, which in turn opens for the 5vdc relay trigger voltage from BIII?

Yes... If you get the voltage from the LED it will be ~1.9V if you go from a switch to a 5V source it will be 5V.

Switch out the resistor on the sidecar as I indicated and you should be fine.

Even simpler you could just put a 1K resistor in parallel with the stock one.

Funny you say that, because in the meantime I tapped the 1,9vdc from input 3 on the selector board and it works excellent!
so obviously the fw dicriminates the different inputs, whatever you say
I said further up the thread that 2 and 4 was f¤"&?`%! and 1 and 3 was OK, didn´t I?
what will I obtain by changing resistor value on selector pcb then? increasing the 1.85vdc to the trigger transistor that obviously is ok with the same 1.85vdc from input 3? but won´t accept it from 4 ? doesn´t make sense
pls enlighten me
best

Leif, the DAC does not care about which SPDIF channel is selected when I2S input is present. Change the resistor as indicated and see what happens.

I did and you´re wrong!
parallelled the R on the selector switch pcb with 1K and went back to tapping 1.926vdc to sidecar "b" from input 4
still unstable lock
reconnected same to input 3 and it´s dead stable, whatever you claim
I haven´t even touched the X/O today!Shame on you
best

I believe you but what I am saying is that the firmware treats both exactly the same. :) What could be happening is that the DAC is interpreting the signal present on D4 as a potential SPDIF signal and attempting to lock on to it. You could as you have done avoid that by choosing a different channel on the selector. Perhaps channel1?

This is very well known issue on the ES9018, and can be avoided by disabling SPDIF input.
