I am using the BIII in Stereo Mode with Single SPDIF Converter connected to D1. Should Dip Switch 8 on SW2 be set to "ON" or "OFF"? Will this let me avoid physically joining the input pins on the DAC? Thanks.

As spdif is stereo, probably doesn't matter. It should automatically route internally to all DACs
