Hi, I am scoping a control room monitor solution for my studio encompassing relay switched input and output selection, volume control and headphone amplification. I am considering the following twisted pear components: 2 x Ventus EZ HPAs with individual volume control (most likely provided by a stepped attenuator for each one) 1 x Joshua Tree for the main volume control 1 x Placid HD bipolar at +-12V to power everything The relay switching circuit and control is of my own design and I don't anticipate this requiring more than 100-150mA or so. A couple of questions: 1. Is the Placid HD capable of powering all of these components? 2. What is the height of the boards for these kits once populated? I am hoping to store it all in a 1U case 3. What value of stepped attenuator is recommended for the Ventus volume control? Input is +4dBu balanced most of the time? 3. If I am taking the input signal and providing it to the joshua tree and both Ventus EZ's would you recommend I buffer this signal before routing it to the Ventus'. How would you recommend I do this? Thanks in advance Edited by user Thursday, March 22, 2012 10:52:22 PM(UTC)

Hello dashbad,
1. Yes it should be you will need a Placid HD BP - the JT controller has its own PS. Make sure if you use the same transformer to use the same secondary as the positive side of the placid HD for the JT controller. 2. Well this depends on the heatinks etc. You could change parts if need be to make it fit. 3. Do you mean impedance? Input or output? 4. You should need to buffer into the ventus. But you might want to reduce the input Rs a bit to accommodate the output impedance of the JT.

Can I also use the Placid HD to power the JT or should I just be using the onboard power for that? 3. The input level arriving at the HPA will be maximum +4dbu as it comes direct from my computer soundcard outputs - I intend to put a stepped attenuator at each input of the Ventus EZ to control the level into each amp and am wondering what the max resistance of the attenuator should be? 4. If I buffer the input to the ventus why would I want to reduce the input resistance? I intend to route the signal from the unit inputs directly to the ventus pre-JT rather than post-JT. My intention is to have separate level controls for Outputs and Headphones so the Ventus EZ's will be wired in parallel with the Joshua Tree. Also - the page for the Ventus mentions that it can provide 250mA. My headphones will be blisteringly loud with 125mW - which will require about 6V provided to them (250 Ohm impedance and so will only require 25mA of current. What kind of current can I expect the amp to draw from the power supply with this kind of load? Its not entirely clear to me how to calculate this Thanks!
