hello folks and a happy new year!
have just received some TPA parts and am preparing to build a dual mono BIII feeding a single Legato
have seen the theme covered with BII and L2, but still have som Q´s:
in the excellent but rather extensive integration guide by Leonbv there´s a "chapter" about preparation of the right and left BIII board for dual mono
as far as I understand this is covering the FULLY DUAL version with 2 Legatos
the jumpers are obviously summing the outputs on each channel to then source them through the headers down to the respective Legatos
BUT when using only one Legato, isn´t it necessary to make an "inverted" (with respect to polarity)summing of the 2 dac channels to make one channel feed to one Legato input?
this was described at diyaudio in the dual BII single Legato thread
just want to fully understand what´s happening here

It works the same way as BII in this regard.

ok thxs
so I´ll have to make a "harness" to hook up the R and LCH outputs on each dacboard and feed the sum to respective Legato channel?
does the "sidecar" with 4 s/pdif need to be hooked up with the ribbon cable on both dacs in parallell.......minus the vdc and gnd I guess ?
are there still different fw versions for with or w/o volume, other I2S sources(like ED)etc.?

I am thinking about the same question of duo mono feeding just 1 legato.
-What is the disadvantages of 2 vs 1 legato in duo mono setup?
-if I use only 1 legato, can I use SE out, instead of needing a Ballsie?

Hello guys, Unfortunately I still can not start listening to music! As I said on diyaudio forum I read from cover to cover the BIII DAC Integration Guide and have configured the system as I understand. I used the following: 4-Channel S/Pdif-4input board * Sidecar * two BuffaloIII modules * one Legato 3 * two Ventus HA * 2-bit rotary switch * volume control. 1. I followed the instructions on page 21, "Sidecar and S/PDIF-4 input board integration", so I have not mounted JPCM1,JPCM2,JPCM3,JDSD1,JDSD2 on both BIII modules. "Solder the 24-pin unshrouded header for the EXT_IO connector (EXT_IO, 12) in place. This allows you to connect the switch for the input selection of the S/PDIF-4 Input Board"(page 21)???? . More explanations here! 2. For dual mono I followed the instructions on page 23 step by step for both channel. 3. DIP switch setings: SW1: 1 - off 2 - off 3 - off 4 - off 5 - off 6 - off 7 - off 8 - off SW2: 1 - off 2 - off 3 - on 4 - off 5 - off 6 - off 7 - off 8 - on These settings must be made on both BIII in dual mono? On right channel I remove the on-board firmware controller from the board, jumper on ADDR, jumper on R7! "Only a DAC board with both the firmware controller and L5 in place and R7 not shorted will respond to the DIP switches"!!! page 23. Can someone give me advice? Russ White, Brian Donegan, LeonvB,...? try switches like this (I have it working in a setup like yours):
sw1: off off off on on off off on
sw2: off off on on on on on on
btw, why use ventuses when running one legato? it has SE and HP outputs already.

Hi avd,
I used Buffalo III DAC in place of preamplifier.
I need two SE output for biamping.
On Legato I set SE output to 4V (R21,R22,R23,R24=10K). From here take the signal for active crossover.

still not sure I understand it :) - why not have two power amps fed from a single rca out?
Have you got sound yet?
