I know just enough to be dangerous so just checking.....I've assembled kits and modded gear, but need help in the engineering role. I have a Buffalo III DAC with Tridents on order. Output wise I want balanced and RCA outs. Inputs; coax, optical, DSD (like I've seen here with the SACD player PCM/DSD out mods) and maybe USB. So I need.... IVY-III I/V Stage Placid HD BP PS LCDPS Dual PS 4-Channel S/PDIF level converter and switch Sidecar TOSLINK module 15v and 9v transformers Anything else? Thanks, Rich Edited by user Saturday, January 7, 2012 12:26:40 AM(UTC)

Seems you have the basics covered. You could add USB module for USB input, and 2x Teleporter for your SACD mod. Plus you need an enclosure, IEC, knobs, wiring, etc.

Thank you Leon. First, I'll go with a cardboard box build like miero did...and if it works, then I'll get a suitable enclosure. |

Quote:You could add USB module for USB input, and 2x Teleporter for your SACD mod I plan the same setup, but the USB module I'm awaiting for so long is still not ready. The module on TPA's website is 16bit/48kHz only. So if you plan to play high resolution files trough USB; you can forget that. The teleporter Leon mentioned also is not ready yet. I hope these two modules will be available very soon. And because all my music is stored in Flac on a vortexbox system putting music out via USB2, without them, my setup is 80% useless. Wish you all the best with your project, Henri

Thanks for the replies. I'll wait for the high res USB module. I actually don't use USB right now but you never know... I am actually still trying to figure out where I am going with my build. I see these pictures of built DAC's and I get a box in the mail filled with parts and bare boards...oh, there is assembly required. I do have a question about the extended BOM in the Buffalo DAC Integration Guide 1.2.1. On page 49, for Taller heatsinks on the Placid HD series, shouldn't it read 4 required instead of 2? The Placid HD only uses 2 heatsinks. The HD BP isn't stressed even if you use a Legato with buffers.
