Does the current USB Receiver only output 24 bit I2S to an external DAC? What happened to 16 bit I2S output? Can the USB receiver be configured to automaticly use 16 bit I2S or 24 bit I2S output to an external DAC depending on the source? It doesn't make sense to play a 16 bit music file on a 24 bit I2S stream right?

The current usb module is based on the PCM2707 and only outputs 16-bit I2S.

Ah, I was confused with what the site said and the manual said. The part in the manual where it saids if you want to use an external I2S input DAC then set the jumper to I2S. In this mode the digital output will be 24 bit I2S. To use it to feed the metronome you first set the jumper to I2S, right? So if you wish to use an external power supply on this USB receiver do you connect the LCDPS to the L, GND, GND, R? Edited by user Wednesday, October 12, 2011 8:46:54 AM(UTC)

Ah, that is a typo in the manual.
For I2S output, yes, jumper to I2S.
You cannot use external power for the USB module. L/GND/GND/R are analog outputs from the PCM2707's internal DAC.

It is actually 32bit I2S data (64fs bit clock), but the payload is really only in the high 16bits. :)
This is pretty common.

Is there no where I can tap the usb receiver to receive power fully from the LCDPS to power it externally?

It is designed to be bus powered. I would refer you to the datasheet.
