I just finished the buffalo II / IVY III / USB Dac / Placid kits I ordered back in January. When I was finally satisfied I had the power supplies tuned and everything wired up correctly, I turned on to hear... nothing. I'm using everything absolutely stock. I tested the USB/Dac kit separately, and it plays to its analog outputs. The two leds on the AVCC and the Lock LED on the Buffalo II is on, the mute led is off. This leads me to believe I've got an issue with the IVY III Initially I was using the SE outputs into a S.E.X. amp. (The amp works fine, before and after.) When I turn on I hear the relay on the IVY III click, but just to be sure the relay wasn't in backwards, I connected one side of a headphone jack to + and gnd of the balanced outputs (one side at a time) and still heard nothing from either channel. The Placid BP is at 14.96V and -14.97V. I'm reading 0.055V across R13 and 0.057V R14 with the IVY connected, and the Buffalo disconnected. I'm at a loss now. I can't get probes down to the op amps to make sure they're getting power: the caps get in the way of my stubby probes. Any suggestions for diagnosing what's going on? I've got photos of the front and back of the board, but haven't figured out how to post them. Do I have to put them on a website somewhere? When I just put the path to them (they're on my desktop) between <img></img> tags, the preview just shows x's. Try to do the same thing but just on the BII balanced current output + and gnd, - and gnd of each side and see if you can hear sound coming out. Make sure the IVY is not connected when testing. Use cheap earphones to quickly test.
If this works, then your BII is working good
Then we troubleshoot the IVY III

Hmmmm, good call. I assumed that because I measured 3.75VRMS at the output of the Buff II that I was getting sound there.
But using the headphones I didn't get any sound on either channel, +/gnd, nor -/gnd.
Placid is giving 5.23VDC. Voltage across R3 on the Placid is 0.061 with the Buff II connected, but not mounted on the IVY III.
Oh... this is going to turn out to be embarassing. I just pulled the Spdif outputs off the USB/Dac and plugged the headphone back into the outputs. No sound.
Then I finally checked the sound devices on the netbook. It had lost the USB/Dac.
A-a-a-a-n-d reinstalling the driver and hooking everything back up results in... glorious sound!
Thanks for being available and replying so quickly. Now to hook up the good cans and enjoy the music!
