Good day gents,

I have 2 questions regarding the new Buffalo 3 DAC, namely:

a. Will the new Dac accept the SPDIF output from the CD PRO 2 LF at 48fs (or would I still need the Metronome to bump it up to a higher sampling rate?)

b. Would the new 4 channel SPDIF / Sidecar combo accept the USB input from the Opus/Toslink module/ 12s/to the new Buffolo3 (in other words would it replace the CS 8461_MUX ?)
Sorry if there obvious questions but I simply don’t know!

1- No support for 48fs
2- I think I read that the CS8461 MUX will be redesigned with the WM8805 part, so they are not the equivalent of the spdif switch and the PCM switch accessory boards.

You should be able to use SPDIF directly, with no issues. If you want to is I2S, you would need the Metronome.

Your second question confuses me. "USB input from the Opus/Toslink module"?

Sorry to confuse, I originally thought you MUST use a metronome to get the CD Pro connected , but you have answered that question by saying the SPDIF out from the CD pro can be connected directly to the say a buffalo 3 DAC ( But would i need the SPDI TO 12S transceiver card you sell to do that , i could i just go straight in to the DAC with SPDIF?)

I was also intending to use a Opus for the USB and a Toslink input also, so is the output format of these modules OK to go directly to the DAC (perhaps via the new 5 channel input/Sidecar combo?)

iF SO That would save a ton of cash on a Metronome/placid/transformer and a Mux/Placid as all i want is the DAC to accept the CD Pro (SPDIF) a Toslink and a USB input.

Is there a diagram available to show the CD Pro/SPDIF/Buffalo route? (I cant find one)

It also sounds like the Volumite would not be needed as the DAC had its own onboard volume control option? (again sorry if i am wrong)

To my knowledge the CD Pro isn't TTL level S/PDIF, so you would require the 4:1 S/PDIF input module.
Opus isn't for USB input, the USB receiver/DAC is.
You only need the Sidecar module if you want to hook up the upcoming XMOS DAC module in the future. The current USB receiver has S/PDIF output.
Diagrams aren't on the site yet, Russ and Brian are working hard on the documentation. Hooking it all up will become quite straightforward, so likely you can do that without a diagram.
Correct: Volumite isn't needed anymore, as the BIII has one on-board.

To be fair, the current USB module says "Opus USB Module" on the silk. It was designed a long time ago, back when Opus was the only DAC, and the family name.

Sorry by Opus i meant the USB module (but it was called Opus in the paperwork i downloaded)
With respect to CD Pro SPDIF, Would not the new 4 Channel SPDIF input module convert the SPDIF to the level thats acceptable to the DAC?

From the web page: " Each input is transformer isolated, 75-Ohm terminated, and fed to a hish-speed quad-comparator for TTL-level shifting from consumer-level signals. It can be connected directly to the Buffalo (soldered) or via a 20-pin ribbon cable and connectors (included)".

Does that mean CD Pro2 SPDIF in to the new input module, than is OK to feed the Buffalo?

Would the USB module (IF CONFIGURED FOR SPDIF )also go the same way and feed the buffalo to get audio out (via an IVY III say )?

The CD-Pro's I2S output is 48fs. Modern DAC chips require 64fs. The metronome can reclock 48fs to 64fs for feeding the Buffalo (or any other modern chip).

Yes, CD-Pro S/PDIF into 4-Input S/PDIF module will work fine, as will the USB module's S/PDIF output. The USB actually outputs TTL-level already, but that's okay.

Hi Boys (and Girls)

Sorry to be a pain, but another thing occurs to me (bet its not the first time for you though Brian?) The Buffalo ac has some expansion capabilities, such as exploited by Arundo processors (I mean LCD display:viz: DAC volume/jitter/other status info etc) to this end will twisted pair ever be developing such an module?

If so ---- (and i don’t want you to let the cat out of the bag if its in the skunk works) --would it be possible to give the dimensions of the LED/LCD display area,and PCB size?-- I ask as i may be getting A Galaxy enclosure and could get them to mill out the front panel accordingly.

That would be AC2. A release date is unknown.

Brian is sending me some components (displays etc) he wants to try to keep in stock for use with the AC2. Once that is done and I make some firmware for B3 and B2 it should be good to go. :) The board itself is done and tested.
