I have some collection of DSD files stored in pc.
I want to have a usb interface and DAC which can handle multichannel and stereo DSD data.
Plus software to play them.
Can Twisted Pear products, combination of Buffalo III and usb interface, satisfy this requirement ?
Best

Hi Pjo,

For the usb interface, the only one that I know supports multi-channel is the exaU2I USB to I2S Interface but I do not believe it supports DSD but rather multi-channel I2S

For the DAC, I would use the Buffalo III with the Legato 3.1 or IVY III (I'm a Legato fan... I prefer all discrete components) in stereo or multiple IVY stages if using multichannel. The BIII is more than capable of this task!

You can probably use foobar to playback the dsd .dff files
Foobar dff

If you have a Mac you can use Pure Music

Ciao!

Hi.

Why legato could not be use for multichannel?

For the EXAU2I, It can now play dsd file.

Legato would work fine multi channel. It would just have different parts values because of the change in input current.

I have three legato and I will plug them on my upcoming Buffalo III. What components may I change?

Hmm so you will want 6 channels?

My guess is you will want 2 with 2 DAC channels paralleled and 4 with one channel each, correct?

Not exactly. I will use one Buffalo III for the 6 channels. Two output will be unused.

Hmm OK. Well that would not be any trouble. I am working on a little app note for the Legato 3.1 and IVY III regarding multi-channel use.

What is boils down to for Legato is that for 1/4 current (only using one DAC pair instead of four) you multiply the CCS and gain resistors by 4, and similarly increase the filter caps.

For IVY III the approach is similar its just the feedback resistors for the first stage that change.

a bit of a waste to leave 2 channels unused - I'd sum them in to 2 of your 6 signals -
I understand that the B3 has this flexibility?

I agree But I don't know if it is possible. The Buffalo III manual will be out today, we will see....
