Do anyone know the difference in output quality between the Placid HD and the earlier Placid versions?
Level of noise?

Is there anything to gain by upgrade from earlier versions?

Kind regards

Well obviously the HD version offers far higher current than the earlier versions. And as the capacitator is far greater on the HD, I'd say the stability should be better. Also the HD offers easier measurements as all testing pads are much easier accessable.

I have added an huge capacitator on my old version from start. Main question for me is if the HD will gives lower noise (be an upgrade for BII).

I am wondering the same thing.

I have a single (V2.0.1) and dual (V2.1.2).

Russ - Can you let us know what the sound quality differences are?

I see that there is a 10,000uF cap where the older version has a 1000uf. Also no opamp.

karvid - what size cap did you install? Make much difference?

I started with 33000uF RIFA PEH200, but ended up with 10000uF RIFA PEH200 since I didn't hear any different and it is smaller (easier to place).

There are actually several important differences. First, HD is all discrete. I was able to tweak the gain of the control stage so that there is less need for compensation etc. That single difference accounts for a few others. It also has a much better scheme for the VREF etc. Placid HD is the next step in the evolution of the Placid, and as such it builds on what we have learned prior. It is indeed a better module, but they are both fine. :)

Cheers!

I will use the Placid for Digital and the HD for the Analog supply on the Dac Chip. Boo hoo!

can you describe the differences between 1000uF and 10000uF? What were you driving with your placid?

Different brand/type of capacitors sounds different and finding the right type and correct size (value), in a specific application is a bit like cooking. Try and taste!
I have done this for many years now and I can only say try your own ideas! You might get tip from someone, but in the end it is your taste and your applications that matters...

By the way I use my Placid to feed BII and I never tried the 1000uF. I went for the larger RIFA PEH200 directly! :-)
