Ok when I had just the USB module and using it's DAC windows volume control worked just fine. Now when I add the opus to it it does not work. How do I get the volume control in windows to work? Some programs like Media Monkey I can control the volume and it turns it down and what not. Media Monkey, Foobar, Media Player most of them do.

The is a common things that come up with people who use the PCM2707 and its siblings from TI. There are two types of volume control involed in the USB module playback, digital, and HID. The USB DAC is directly controll by HID command, so the anlog output from the USB module is changed when a HID command for volume change occurs. The digital data coming is not changed in this case. Its still full scale. The reason they do this is because this allows the USB on-board DAC to process the volume change in what ever way it sees fit. Some application like Foobar can control the volume by changing the PCM data itsself by applying DSP. With those type of applications you can change volume through the I2S output. I hope that helps. For more info I would refer to the PCM2707 datasheet. Cheers! Russ Edited by user Saturday, May 3, 2008 6:52:56 PM(UTC)

Use an application like Foobar that alters the PCM stream directly.

Yeah right now I'm using Media Portal an HTPC front end. Kind of seems like its messing with the sound a bit though so I have to look for some plugins for the sound output or something.

Also like to use it with a frontend like MediaPortal or MythTV etc. If I am unable to control volume it really make the project look like a dead end!

I don't remember haha... My DAC has been down a while and just yesterday I got new stuff for it and will no longer be using USB but SPDIF. There is a Pure Audio plugin for Media Portal that makes the sound quality 100 times better for sure.
