Having got legato working I finally got my headphone socket installed, enthusiastically plugged in my headphones, whacked on some tunes, and was greeted by inky blackness. The socket is wired as:

tip = left
ring = right
sleeve = gnd

Is that correct?

I've tried with 2 pairs of known working phones and get nothing out of either.

Cheers, James

Yes, that's correct. It seems you have a problem elsewhere. Can you measure any DC offset at the HP outputs?

Thanks Brian. I get the same dc offset reading as I do at the respective SE outputs, which is as near to zero as I can get. SE output to amp is working fine. I thought the HP outputs were just another set of connections on the same outputs as normal SE, which is why I was surprised to get absolutely nothing.

Maybe it's a dodgy hp socket. I have another old one ripped out of an amp in the bits box. Maybe I should try installing that.

Quick rough test. Put on some tunes and touched my hp jack across +ve and grnd of the phono socket on one channel. Bingo, music through one channel. So I'm thinking there must be something going on with the hp socket. Annoying, as it's new.

I'm using one of these

Costs next to nothing, quality is high.

Cheers, well, a quick change of socket and we have music. Looks and feels identical to the one I've just taken out. Bizarre.
