Hello all
I'm currently assemblying my newly bought kits. I am a bit confused about the "common mode choke" L1 and L2. On the PCB, i see a small dot beside one of the pads, which indicates some orientation should be met. However, on the components themselves, i see no dents or marks. Can i just solder them the way i feel like or should i sharpen my eyes?
Also, since i am a beginner, do you have a good advice on how to tackle these surfacemounted components? - is there a good technique you want to share? - I don't have any fancy equipment.

There are some helpful videos on YouTube, for example: Best of luck!

Hei! Look here for the L1/L2 orientation question: http://twistedpearaudio....t.aspx?g=posts&t=820The easy way to mount SMD's is to put solder on one of the pads, place the component, reheat the solder while pressing the component to the board, solder the other pad(s) lastly (if needed) put some more solder on the first pad.

Hi guys
Thanks for the quick replies. I had a go at it and it seemed to work out just awesome. I finished both my LCDPS and LCBPS kits.. now i just need to find a guide stating how to tune them so i can troubleshoot and make them ready for mounting.
I'm quite pleased by the way my project is going. My work is of course not perfect, but i think it's going good especially considering this is my first soldering project. It's quite fun.. maybe i'll order a kit for a headphone amp just for kicks..

Better in that it is simpler yes. We found after some testing that the Ls did virtually nothing. So we omitted them.
