Hello All Complete novice tackling a B2 build consisting of the following kits: B2 Tridents Legato 2 LCDPS LCBPS Volumite I take the freedom to post all my newbie-related questions in this thread First of, there is no manual for the Legato 2 - only revs 1 and 3. I see there are two different ways to do the preliminary tweeking of the Legato before wireing it up with the other kits - anyone who has the L2 manual lying around? Second, there is no manuals for the LCDPS and LCBPS, but plenty of manuals for the placid. Are there any first time powering on instructions for these kits or are they application specific? Third, the construction options for the Legato are missing. Can anyone tell me what the benefits are from omitting the buffer? Are there any sonic/practical differences between omitting the buffer and potentially the BAL/SE stage? - I use single ended outputs, but want to make room for balanced in the future. Fourth, there are some small things that confuses a beginner. They all relate to the Legato 2. SW1 is called S1 in the BOM (on the plastic bag) and C1-C4 is a two-legged components but there are four holes. No explanation where it goes, but i looked at a photo on the internet who had the same problem. He was lucky enough to start his build when the L2 was the current iteration (Why is there no legacy page for the Legato???!) Fifth, to connect the tridents, the table on page 10 in the integration guide states that modifications must be made on the LCDPS to power the B2 /w tridents. I see no rev number on my board (but my LCBPS states v2.0). How do you define old? - i bought my kit in Jan 2011. I'm a bit curious to see if my power supplies work. I watched a vid on youtube about soldering and turned on the soldering iron. Currently my progress is so far: If the images don't work, see here: http://imageshack.us/g/860/dsc00208n.jpg/Hopefully it will work out somehow - for a first timer, i'm quite satisfied how this is going.

Most important: I think there's a bad soldering (almost no solder at 1 point) on the LCDPS. Overall it looks quite good however. 2. The LCDPS and LCBPS are fairly simple: you hook them up without load, adjust the output voltage and then power them down. Then connect them to the load. 5. If you read the guide, it also says: "Newer versions of the LCDPS ship with suitable resistors (2.7Ω, 3W) for higher currents and don’t need to be modified." To check the values of the resistors you compare them to this:

Actually, all you need to do it read the value printed on the side of the resistor. :)

Well it's clear I don't have a LCDPS to see how big the resistors are.

Hi guys Regarding bad soldering - i have corrected it. I am still debating on how much solder i need to put on these. At first i had way too much, but decreased the amount. Now i just put on so i have a few mm's of solder rising up from the bottom. It looks more like "the pros". It's just sad that my cutter is a bit dull, so it looks terrible after the legs have been cut. Sorry, i completely overlooked the part about checking the resistor value. I see they are indeed 2.7Ω. I guess i'll just populate the Legato and omit the jumpers. That seems to be a common recommendation for both v1.0 and v3.0 One of the upcoming days, i will post a schematic of how i would wire the kits together. It would mean alot to me if you guys would take a look and tell me if i'm wrong. I know there are some examples, but i'll make one either way to make sure i don't make any faults in that regard. (that is, with the source - Logitech SB Touch - and my transformers. I'm still a bit unsure, bit i will of course put in some effort to research how to do it) PS: Even though my previous post seemed quite negative - it shouldn't be seen that way btw - i must commend the TPA guys for making the kits. I don't want to seem like an ass kisser, but i'm genuinely surprised of the effort that has been put into making the kits easy to assemble. I've only been confused about the L1/L2 on the LCDPS and C1-C4 on the Legato. Good job! Edited by user Friday, June 17, 2011 12:10:24 PM(UTC)

If you using just one bipolar supply you will need J1-4. You should just be able to populate the parts as labeled from the kit. Once the parts are in adjusting it is essentially the same as Legato 1. Edited by user Friday, June 17, 2011 1:17:35 PM(UTC)
