Hi! Before I receive all the modules, I post my project: So the aim is to do a PC-base Filtering system for my 3 way Speaker. In one case there will be three Twisted pear Buffalo II DAC with three Legato 3.1 and the unique EXADEVICE EXAU2I ( The only one Multichannel asynchronous USB to I2S audio interface I know) All theses modules will be feed with the AMB.org σ11 discrete power supply for the digital circuit and with σ22 for the analog part (legato 3.1). Hi Atom, This looks like an interesting project but I have a few questions... Since you're going for 3 BIIs filtering for each frequency range, then I guess you're also driving the speakers with 3 stereo or 6 mono block amps, correct? To take full advantage of a setup like this, you would need some pretty good amplifiers as well. So my question, why not go with dual mono BIIs setup in balanced mode and use the Tridents? You can still bi-wire / tri-wire your speakers if you have the amps already and save some money, unless money is no objection... ;-) I just don't see where using this setup would give you better sound quality. I'm running a dual mono setup already (BIIs + Tridents + Legato 3.1 + Volumite = AMAZING sound!) and thinking of using a Tube I/V since it's going to be hard to get better sound with SS components for now. I've ordered the PCBs for the tube I/V and will integrate both Legato 3.1 and Tube configurations in my DAC. I will switch between them using relays. Tube-I-zator V2.0If you have the money, I would recommend trying this out with quality components. In any cases, have fun! Twisted Pear Rocks! Do

Good question! One of the main advantage of the EXAU2i is that the driver provide eight output to the computer. So I can use a PC in order to do X-filer. My player with the filter plug-in will send the bass frenquency to the "bass" dac wich is connected to the "bass" AMP wich is connected to the Woofer and so on for the midrange and the high frequency. With this system I remove the passive x-Over in my speaker. It is far better to do filtering in the digital domain because you will avoid to use passive components witch are not optimal. No need for further explanations!
I get it, you're removing the X over and filtering digitally, getting rid of the passive components that would ultimately alter sound in some ways, like caps for example.
Interesting setup!

You would still get better resolution using the 3x BII (4DAC per channel) than using a single BIII The difference might not be that obvious but in your high end setup it could mather. Just a thought... ;-) Edited by user Friday, July 15, 2011 6:12:25 AM(UTC)

Have you done this build? I am thinking of something similar.
May I ask a couple of questions?:
1) What do you find to be the sound quality difference of multi B-II DACs vs 1 m-ch B-II/B-III DAC?
2) Is the u2i the only way to feed m-ch from PC to B-II/III? Would that not also be possible from an RME or Lynks internal or external sound card? If so, why did you go this route? (One issue for me is the u2i not supporting m-ch DSD.
3) Any other wisdom you want to share 9 months later?
