Worth a try before taking a hammer to it! There doesn't seem to be a Buffalo II schematic available. I'll just assume that components on the left channel side which mirror components on the right channel side would be the ones to aim for. Edited by user Wednesday, July 18, 2012 11:59:32 PM(UTC)

Well if you swap channels does the problem follow the swap?

Well unfortunately it does sound like it may be dead. It does seem odd for something with no moving parts to fail after 2 years. Ah well, hopefully someone will sell me one. Thanks for the help anyway.

Update: I bought a board from a diyaudio member and fired it up today. It had the same problem, i.e. no left channel. "Hello" I thought, "that can't be right". So I went into the control panel for my Musiland USB to SPDIF and fiddled around a bit. The left channel returned. I reinstalled the original Buffalo II and it was fine all along. The Ivy III is also fine. Sorry for having been an idiot once again. Now I have 2 Buffalos, I'm tempted to go dual mono. I think the one I bought has the faster crystal in it though, so I suppose it won't work?

It should work, obviously there are only slight differences between the two.
